How to set up and install your AI chatbot

Build an assistant that knows your business, answers in your preferred style, and helps visitors from a chat widget on your website. This guide takes you from your first login to a tested installation.

Updated October 8, 2026

1. Create your account and complete setup

  1. Create a Miravo AI account, then sign in and complete any email verification requested.
  2. In the setup flow, enter Your website. Miravo uses it to prepare a website profile and draft business and assistant details. If you do not have a website ready, continue without one and add content later.
  3. Enter your Company name and choose the languages your assistant supports.
  4. Choose an Assistant name and a response style. Conservative sticks closely to your content; Balanced is more conversational.
  5. Finish setup. If website preparation is still running, wait for it to finish before judging the assistant’s knowledge. Review any partial or failed preparation in your data sources.

Treat generated descriptions as a draft. Check your company details, products, policies, and links before relying on them in customer conversations.

2. Give your chatbot the right knowledge

Your knowledge supplies the facts. Your instructions tell the assistant how to present those facts. Start with accurate, current content rather than uploading everything you have.

Website Profile

Open Agent Settings → Data Sources → Website Profile. If you did not add a website during setup, enter its full URL and select Add Website. One website is allowed per workspace. Check the preparation status and any error shown. Use Refresh profile when the site changes, then review and test the updated answers.

Documents

Open Knowledge Base. Drag a file into the upload area or select browse. Supported formats are PDF, TXT, DOCX, and CSV, up to 50 MB per file, subject to your plan’s storage and document limits. Wait for processing to complete. Use readable documents with clear product names, headings, and current policies.

Questions & Answers

In Agent Settings → Data Sources → Questions & Answers, select Add Q&A. Enter the customer’s question and your approved answer, then select Add Pair. This is useful for recurring questions that your website does not explain clearly.

For example, add “How do I request a quote?” with your actual process and contact link. Use your own facts; do not copy a sample policy into the knowledge base. Remove or update outdated sources so they do not contradict your current answers.

3. Configure how your chatbot answers

Open Agent Settings → Identity. Set Agent Name to the identity you want customers to recognize. Use Agent Description for the assistant’s role, tone, answer length, boundaries, and next steps.

“Be helpful” gives little direction. “Give a short answer first, use numbered steps for setup questions, and ask one clarifying question before recommending a product” gives the assistant a concrete way to respond.

An instruction template you can adapt

Replace the bracketed details, adjust the tone to your brand, and paste the instructions into Agent Description. These guide behavior; they do not add integrations or guarantee that every response will follow every instruction. Test them with real questions.

You are the website support assistant for [Company name].
Help [customer type] understand our products and find the right next step.

Tone and format:
- Be warm, professional, and direct. Avoid jargon and emojis.
- Start with a short answer. Use numbered steps for instructions.
- Ask one clarifying question when the request is ambiguous.

Accuracy and boundaries:
- Base business-specific answers on our supplied content.
- Do not invent prices, discounts, delivery dates, or policy exceptions.
- If the information is missing or conflicting, say you cannot confirm it
and offer to connect the visitor with our team.
- Do not claim you have changed an order, issued a refund, or accessed
an account unless that action is actually supported and confirmed.

Next steps:
- Link to the relevant page when a verified link is available.
- Offer human help for account-specific requests or unresolved questions.
- Do not promise an immediate response outside our published support hours.

Choose the style and language

  • Response Style: choose Conservative for a factual support style or Balanced for a more conversational approach. Both still need reliable business content.
  • Agent Locale: choose Auto-detect to adapt to the visitor’s language, or select a language for your intended audience. Test a question in that language.

Select Save Changes in the Identity form. Reopen the settings and run a fresh test to check that your choices were retained and that replies match your expectations. If a choice does not persist, contact support.

Add business context separately

Under Branding → Business Description, explain what your company does, who it serves, and which products or services it offers. You can use Generate with AI as a starting point, then review the result and select Save Branding. Keep detailed policies in your knowledge sources and behavioral instructions in Agent Description.

For a formal brand, request professional wording and no emojis. For a friendly brand, request plain language and a warm greeting. For technical support, ask for numbered steps and a clarifying question when the product or error is unclear. Keep the rules consistent rather than asking for both very short and exhaustive answers to every question.

4. Set up human handoff

In Agent Settings → Escalation, review these two switches:

  • Automatically escalate when agent can’t answer: allows handoff when the assistant cannot find a relevant answer or has low confidence.
  • Automatically escalate when user is frustrated or asks for a human: allows handoff when a visitor needs a person.

Enable the options appropriate for your support workflow and select that section’s Save Changes. Test an unanswered question and “Can I speak to a human?” so your team knows how to pick up the conversation. Handoff does not mean someone is immediately available; set expectations around your actual support hours.

Auto Resolve controls when conversations are closed, including satisfaction, inactivity, and maximum age. Review those settings and save them separately. Closing a conversation is different from confirming that the customer’s problem was solved.

5. Customize the chat widget

Open Widget Customization. Set your colors, logo, Assistant Name, welcome message, and widget position. Keep the visible assistant name consistent with Agent Name.

Add Starter Questions that customers commonly ask, such as “Which product is right for me?” or “How do I get started?” Only suggest questions your content can answer. Review Launcher Button and Proactive Greeting if you want to change how visitors discover the chat.

If you use Lead Capture, review its options, notification email, and optional booking link. Use your real booking URL. Check the Live Preview, then select Save Changes. The preview helps you check appearance; use a test conversation to evaluate actual answers.

6. Test before you install

Open Test Your Agent, available to workspace admins. It uses the same AI agent as the website widget. Ask realistic customer questions rather than only checking the greeting.

  • A common question with a clear answer in your content: does the answer match your current policy?
  • An ambiguous request: does the assistant ask for the missing detail?
  • A question your content cannot answer: does it acknowledge the gap instead of inventing a fact?
  • A request for a human: does the handoff behave as expected?
  • A follow-up question and a question in your target language: does the reply stay useful and on brand?

If the facts are wrong, correct the knowledge source. If the wording is wrong, adjust Agent Description. Save the change and select New Test to evaluate a fresh conversation. Repeat until your representative questions produce answers you would be comfortable sending to customers.

7. Install the widget on your website

  1. Open Embed Code. If access is locked after your trial, follow the activation prompt and choose a plan.
  2. Under Allowed Domains, enter the hostname where the widget will run, such as example.com, then select Add. Add other hostnames you use, such as www.example.com or a staging hostname. Use hostnames rather than a full page URL.
  3. Select Copy to Clipboard to copy your workspace’s generated script tag. Use the exact snippet from your dashboard.
  4. Paste it once into your website’s shared HTML, before the closing </head> tag. If your site builder has a custom-code area, choose a location that inserts the script across the pages where you want chat. If you cannot edit the site, send the snippet to the person who manages it.
  5. Save and publish your website changes. Open the live site in a fresh browser session, open the chat button, and send a test question. Check both desktop and mobile layouts.

Allowed Domains can be empty for development, but add your actual website hostnames for production. Installing the script makes the widget available on pages that include it; it does not replace adding and testing your business knowledge.

8. Keep answers up to date

Review customer conversations after launch. Add Q&A pairs for recurring gaps, refresh the website profile after important changes, and update documents when policies or products change. Retest your key questions after changing knowledge or instructions.

Save changes in the section you edited: Identity, Branding, Escalation, Auto Resolve, and Widget Customization have their own save controls. Then refresh the live website and start a new conversation to check the customer experience.

Troubleshooting

The chat button does not appear

Confirm that the website changes were published, the copied script is present on the live page, your trial or subscription permits publishing, and the current hostname is in Allowed Domains. Check for duplicate installations. If the site blocks third-party scripts, ask your website administrator to review its script restrictions.

The chatbot gives incomplete or outdated answers

Check website preparation and document processing status. Refresh the website profile, update the relevant Q&A pair or document, and remove conflicting old content. Start a New Test after saving. Changing tone instructions will not repair missing business facts.

The tone or language is not what you expected

Make the Agent Description more specific, confirm that settings remain saved when you reopen the page, and test in a fresh conversation. If a response-style or language selection resets or has no effect, contact support with the setting, your test question, and the reply you received.
